Tabula Rasa: James, Anthony, David... Update Time!
From: Tabula Rasa Events

hey howdy hey!

Well it's been just four weeks since tickets have been on sale for the big event; and they are being snapped up like hotcakes. So much so that alot have you been in touch with us here at HQ concerned about missing out on tickets in case the event is sold out before you've had a chance to purchase your own tickets.

So to help you all get through those sleepless nights of worry we have devised a nifty little payment plan and ordering option for those who want to make sure that their seats are secured; but can't pay the full amount for the tickets just yet for whatever reason.

So here it is; from now until the end of April you can order your tickets in the regular methods [see www.tabularasa.com.au] and secure your seat with a 50% deposit, the balance of which will be due four weeks after your initial order. Your seat will be assigned to you on the day that you book so this is great opportunity to lock away the great seats still up for grabs.

Now the important part - to identify your booking as a part payment order [and not a regular full payment order] you should add to your surname "DEPOSIT" so that the guys and dolls in the office know only to charge 50% to you now. eg: "Smith DEPOSIT" would be entered into the surname field; either on the online or download-able form's available. Regular booking conditions apply and this offer is only for orders made via Tabula Rasa Events - full prices will charged when booking via Ticketek.

Not only with this years convention being the fastest selling Buffy/Angel event we've had to date; but there will be a series of national and local campaigns hitting the general public in the coming weeks, so this is an added bonus to give you the option to book now and pay later, ensuring that you don't miss out.

If you have any questions in regards to this offer, you can either contact the Tabula Rasa Events team by email - info@tabularasa.com.au or by telephone [10am-7pm AEST] on 03 5964 2134.

Just a short word about James Marsters' performance of his new album "Civilized Man" at the HiFi Bar - there are less than 50 tickets left to this show now, so if you haven't snapped up yours yet - now is the time to do it! --> www.ticketek.com.au - 'cause they'll all be gone in another week!

Best,
the Tabula Rasa Events team

Ask Ausiello: More on Spike Movie
From: http://www.tvguide.com/news/askausiello/050330.asp

Question: I think I am falling in love with you. I can't thank you enough for your efforts on this Spike movie (Ask Ausiello 3/23). Boy, you leave no stone unturned, do you? If this film ever gets made, I think you should not only show up in the credits, but a cameo would be cool. — Kathy

Ausiello: Hey, wanna be my agent? I'm looking for some new representation. Here are the terms: You get a .10 percent cut of any/all jobs you secure on my behalf. A Deadwood handshake will seal the deal.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question: Did Joss Whedon say anything about reviving Angel as a movie-of-the-week? — Chris

Ausiello: Yeah, but it seems that ship has sailed. These days, he's all about the Spikester. "The thing is, David Boreanaz has kind of gone to a new place," Whedon said. "He did the series for five years and the character for a couple of years before that [on Buffy], and the thing about a Spike movie that's different is, well, it's different. In the same way Angel was different than Buffy as a show because of the characters, Spike would be different as a subject and that's what makes it fresh. I don't want to try to recapture the essence of something that I've already done. I want to put a new spin on it."

Peter David Has Completed Spike Comic
From: http://peterdavid.malibulist.com/archives/002714.html

March 24, 2005

Okay, that's done

Turned in the completed script for the Spike one-shot today. Just did an out-loud reading of it for Kathleen and Ariel, to make sure all the dialogue and voices sounded okay. It's not as if they're the most unbiased audience in the world, but they liked it a lot. My goal--which, of course, I'll probably never know if I achieved--is to have Whedon read it and think, "Okay, why the hell didn't we hire this guy to write for us?" Of course, he could just as easily think, "Thank God we never hired him to write for us." But I think it's got enough twists and turns to live up to his sense of the perverse.

If nothing else, it should please the Buffy fans since it definitively establishes that Cecily and Hallie were the same person and shows what happened at the party after William fled into the night to meet his vampiric fate.

The artist has already started work based on early pages I turned in. We'll probably have sample artwork and the cover to put up here on Monday, although naturally it will still be pending approvals from Fox and shouldn't be considered necessarily the final versions.

WB considering Blondie Bear return?

WB considering Blondie Bear return?
Posted on Thr, 24-Mar-2005

Looks like we might be seeing a familiar bloodsucker back on the frog soon.

Both Joss Whedon and James Marsters, creator and co-star of "Angel", respectively, have long expressed an interest in bringing bottle-blonde vampire Spike back to screens in a telemovie - and by the sounds of it, it's going to [finally] happen.

Whedon announced at Wizard World over the weekend that he's very keen to do an "Angel" spin-off - with the character of 'Spike' the chap he'll most likely be concentrating on - and it got a great reception from those in attendance.

Ausiello over at TV Guide talked to both WB entertainment president David Janollari, and Whedon, who sounded keener than a Olympian around water to dive straight into it.

"I have given it more thought since you brought it up. It's certainly something that I continue to get many fan letters and e-mails about, and it's something that we discuss a lot around here. But no decision has been made", the WB head-honcho tells the reporter.

Whedon seemed optimistic. "I'm really for it, but I have never really spoken to David Janollari," he said. "I occasionally would bring it up with [execs at 20th Century] Fox, and they'd be like, 'Yeah, that would be cool.' And I'm like, 'Who do we need to talk to?' And then nothing has really happened. I've been really busy in post [-production] on Serenity and haven't been able to get the wheels turning, but I definitely intend to investigate it."

Whedon says he doesn't necessarily need to write or direct the "Spike" telemovie, so the WB can pretty much getting go on it as soon as they want. "[Spike] is not necessarily something that I would write and direct myself," he suggested. "I have a lot of brilliant friends who worked with me for many years who might be able to take the helm - somebody who both James [Marsters] and I would trust."

Whedon says his idea for the "Spike" telemovie isn't a prequel. "For me, Spike is a very contemporary guy," he said. "It's sort of what distinguished him from Angel."

Fingers crossed - it could be the first smart move The WB has made since greenlighting "Angel" all those years back.

Ask Ausiello: Spike Telemovie
From: http://www.tvguide.com/news/askausiello/050323.asp

Question: Are we getting any closer to a Spike movie? — Heather

Ausiello: Based on my conversations with both Whedon and WB entertainment president David Janollari last Thursday, it certainly sounds like we are. When I asked Janollari if he had given any further thought to the Spike telepic I pitched him at press tour in January, he said, "I have given it more thought since you brought it up. It's certainly something that I continue to get many fan letters and e-mails about, and it's something that we discuss a lot around here. But no decision has been made." Well, literally 15 minutes after I hung up with Janollari, Whedon called to weigh in on a William the Bloody revival. I've been really busy in post [-production] on Serenity and haven't been able to get the wheels turning, but I definitely intend to investigate it." When I relayed to him that Janollari had just told me that he was open to the idea, Whedon responded, "Well, that's something that I hope to get a chance to pursue." And what about his Wonder Woman commitment? Wouldn't that further delay things? "[Spike] is not necessarily something that I would write and direct myself," he suggested. "I have a lot of brilliant friends who worked with me for many years who might be able to take the helm — somebody who both James [Marsters] and I would trust." Whedon also revealed that the Spike pic would not be a prequel, thereby alleviating the age-related concerns Marsters recently expressed in Ask Ausiello. "For me, Spike is a very contemporary guy," he said. "It's sort of what distinguished him from Angel." So let me get this straight: Not only did I pitch this movie to Janollari, but I secured the participation of its star and creator. If that's not enough to land me a producing credit, then something's wrong with the system.

James in Talks to Join Horror Flick Urbane
From: http://www.darkfocus.com/index.php?art=282&cat=f_c&side=sh

Horror icons Doug Bradley, Robert Englund and James Marsters united in Urbane

James Marsters and Robert Englund are in talks for the movie
by Marcel Hellemons
on 2005-03-18 at 22:22:37

Several amazing casting rumors have surfaced on the internet for the upcoming horror movie Urbane. Both James Marsters (Buffy's Spike) as well as Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) are supposed to join Doug Bradley (Pinhead).

Because we at DarkFocus.com want to keep you up to date with all the exciting news on Urbane we talked to director Frazer Lee about the rumoured new cast members. Here's the latest inside info:

Doug Bradley as nightclub owner Richard Germaine

Doug Bradley, who is most famous for his portrayal as the tortured prince of pain 'Pinhead' in the Hellraiser movies, is definately confirmed as the suave owner of a fetish London nightclub Richard Germaine.

Robert Englund as Professor Fredericksen

Robert Englund, who is most famous for his energetic performance as Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elmstreet movies is in talks to play Professor Fredericksen.

Englund mentioned his involvement during a recent interview at PhillyBurbs.com: "There are a couple of films I'm involved in; one is an English film by Frazer Lee..."

When we asked Urbane director Frazer Lee about this he told us: "Robert Englund is one of the top names in the horror genre and I greatly admire him as an actor. I’m delighted to say we are in talks for him to appear in URBANE and to go head-to-head with Doug Bradley, which is something I believe horror fans will be very excited to see! Robert would be playing a really cool character called Professor Fredericksen. We’ve been running an online poll at www.urbanethemovie.com to find out who fans want to see playing the role, and Robert is the clear winner! He’s seen the URBANE screenplay and is very enthusiastic about it, so I hope we can make it happen with him. No papers have been signed yet, but once our final finances are locked down and shooting dates scheduled hopefully we’ll get there. Robert Englund and Doug Bradley are the Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee of their generation and seeing them face off against each other would be so incredibly awesome, kind of like having 'Freddy versus Pinhead' but without all the latex..."

James Marsters as Jeez

Park Entertainment is the distributor for Urbane. It was at their about us page we found the name James Marsters mentioned in the same breathe as Doug Bradley to star in Urbane. James Marsters became a famous face on tv by his role as 'Spike' in the popular horror series 'Buffy the Vampireslayer' and 'Angel'. Of course we wanted all the details and here's what director Frazer Lee had to say:

"We are also in the very early stages of talking with James Marsters’ agent with a view to him playing Geez. I love James’ work in 'Buffy' and 'Angel' and also his rock band 'Ghost of the Robot'. James has a huge following and an incredible onscreen persona - I think he’d really bring something extra special to URBANE and he’s got a great face for posters!"

Stephanie Leonidas as Lili

She appears in the exciting upcoming fantasy movie MirrorMask.

Urbane director Frazer Lee:
"Stephanie Leonidas blew me away with her performance in the telly drama 'Wall of Silence'. She’s really got something, a special human quality and a very natural demeanor and beauty. We’re speaking with Stephanie about the lead role of Lili. I’ll be asking her to watch Jamie Lee Curtis in HALLOWEEN, as that, for me, was the role that really broke the female lead mould in horror movies. URBANE isn’t really about the running and screaming so much, but it does require our lead actress to go to some very dark places and experience some very disturbing events. I’d be very happy to put Stephanie through her paces, I believe she’d be awesome.

As always, please drop by www.urbanethemovie.com for the latest info about the movie."

Angel Vamp's Afterlife of Crime
From: http://www.tvguide.com/news/insider/050318a.asp

Angel Vamp's Afterlife of Crime
by Ben Katner

James Marsters

Since Angel was dispatched to TV-show heaven, James Marsters' admirers have had a helluva time getting a fix of the actor formerly known as Spike. (Sadly, The Mountain peaked before his character even had a chance to recur. And the Spike TV-movie is only a fantasy for now.) So Saturday's USA movie, Cool Money (airing at 9 pm/ET), is guaranteed to get fans' blood pumping.

In the fact-based drama, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum is career criminal Bobby Comfort - "exactly the kind of guy I want to play," he tells TVGuide.com. "He did some petty crimes that he got caught for almost every time. Never hurt anybody, but he was a smartass to the judge the last time around and got a really heavy sentence - like nine or 10 years for rolling a gas station, I think.

"It's a horrible thing to do," he adds quickly, "but [the sentence was a bit much]. So he escaped from prison, got caught and argued in front of a judge that he was over-sentenced the first time around, and even if he was sentenced again for escaping from prison, it still wouldn't make up for unjust time served. And he won!"

Clearly, while Marsters doesn't advocate living outside the law, he remains fascinated by his Cool counterpart. So of course, he's bummed that the thief died - of old age, not a prison riot, by the way - before Marsters had a chance to join him for a meal of bread and water.

"They say he was a very kind man you wouldn't want to [expletive] with," he says, then quickly corrects himself. "Screw with, excuse me. And those are always my favorite kinds of people."

As fond as the thesp grew of his Money-grubbing alter ego, he doesn't see Comfort and himself as kindred spirits who make their living, in essence, by lying. Comfort, after all, conned folks, and Marsters gets paid to play make-believe. Strange as it may sound, he sees his performances as works of truth rather than fiction.

"I feel very differently about acting than most people do," he explains. "Good acting is not so much lying or putting on a mask as it is revealing yourself in a truthful way. The art of it is to select those facets of your personality that fit the character and not play upon the ones that don't.

"I think it was [Ralph Waldo] Emerson who said, 'Within all men are all men,'" he goes on, "and that's a very potent thing for an actor to contemplate. It gives you the power to play just about anything."

UK SINGER-SONGWRITER KICKS-OFF TOUR

Coventry singer and songwriter Al Britten will be the opening act for James Marsters when the Live In Five tour kicks off at Liverpool's Cavern Club next month.

Since wandering into an open mic night in the summer of 2004, Al has built a substantial, ever increasing following due to his regular, live, one man performances.

Armed only with an acoustic guitar and harmonica, Al's sound has been compared to Dylan, Nick Drake, Neil Young and Beck. Al say he takes these influences and drags them into the Noughties while injecting them with his own style.

Al will also be the special guest at the two concert dates at the Fleece in Bristol.

Watch with Kristin: Cool Money
From: http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Kristin/Trans/Archive2005/050314b.html

From pickles: Thanks for being supportive of Whedonverse fans! My vote is to see James Marsters in just about anything--as Spike or otherwise. Do you think we'll see more of him soon?
You will definitely see him this Saturday on USA for his telepic Cool Money. I've watched it and it's good--fast-paced, well-written and of course yummy, thanks to James. It's actually nice seeing him in an entirely different (non-British) light, though of course, you know my heart lies with Spikey. And you are welcome for this week's column--I wish I could do more.

From mlgm: Love the James Marsters info in last week's column. Have you seen Cool Money? And what pilots is James auditioning for?
Yes, as I mentioned, I've seen it and it is totally worth canceling your Saturday night plans! So, make sure you do. James isn't at liberty to talk about the roles he's up for (Hollywood politics), but I'm hearing he's up for some very big, very leading-man type roles. How de-lish is that?

Peter David to Write Spike Comic

Spike Comic

Yes, as per the Newsarama item, I will be writing a one-shot "Spike" comic for IDW in August. Long time "Buffy" fans will appreciate the concept that Spike winds up squaring off against none other than Hallie the Vengeance Demon, who has a rather unique connection to Spike that was hinted at during season six of BtVS. This story will actually address that connection, shedding some interesting light on Spike's origins.

Save Our Show? How About Resurrect a Whole Universe!

Save One Show? How About Resurrect a Whole Universe!

by Kristin Veitch | Mar. 12, 2005

Spike TV: This year's Save One Show campaign--in which readers vote for the one endangered series they want to save--is all about the shows that have been on the air this season. (And by the way, we will reveal the overwhelming winner in just one week, so hang tight!)

But the fact that no Whedon-helmed series is currently on the air didn't stop nearly 20,000 fans from sending write-in votes: "Bring back the Whedonverse!" Meaning, they want a spinoff or a telepic with the characters from Joss Whedon's television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Now.

Clearly, you want it bad. Especially you Spike (James Marsters) fans. Which explains why I received a lovely floral bouquet (on Valentine's Day, just to get my hopes up that John Stamos had struck again) and a card that read: "A year ago our heart was broken. We don't need an Angel to fix it. But James Marsters could get the blood pumping again!"

While discussing his new telepic, Cool Money (airing Mar. 19 on USA), James told me he was stunned to find out about the flowers. "Really? They did that?" he mused. "Wow. Just. Wow. I am speechless."

Thankfully, the words came when asked about the possibility of a Spike spinoff. "Joss and I have talked about [it]," he told me. "I told him I would be very interested in doing it within a five-year time span, but being that the character is a vampire, I didn't think that I was the guy to play him after that because, with everyone who played a vampire on that show, it was a prime concern that you try to maintain the look that you were hired with, that you really try not to age. Frankly, television will age you. It's like being the President. It's some long hours! And one of the coolest things about a vampire is his iconic ability to just not change. I told Joss I would love to work with him, whatever he's got. So, series TV, direct-to-video, animation, whatever! He's a good writer, so he tends to attract good writers, so it's good to work with him."

And it's good to watch him. Joss--who is very busy with his Serenity movie these days--declined a request to talk about the possibility of a spinoff. So, here's what I'm thinkin': We try and reach him another way. (Especially now that we know the clock is ticking.)

From the emails sent in over the past few months, I've come up with the most popular requests/ideas for Whedonverse spinoffs. I want you to vote here for your Whedonverse fave, and I will forward the results to Whedon's office, as a friendly reminder that the fans want more. I also highly recommend you send this column to your friends, as there is strength in numbers. Tick, tock.

By the by, I checked in with reps for the Buffy and Angel castmembers, and they tell me that though their clients are working on various projects (Alyson Hannigan on Veronica Mars; David Boreanaz on three movies; Amy Acker on a pilot called The Unit with Scott Foley), they would love to work with Joss again.

In the meantime, you can catch James on the aforementioned Cool Money, which is the first chance for many of you to hear him speaking in his real voice, without the British accent. (Swoon.)

The telepic, which airs Mar. 19 on USA, is a slick crime drama with a Guy Ritchie-esque feel and a compelling story. "I play the character Bobby Comfort, who's based on the real man, Bob Comfort, who spent most of his life in prison," James tells me. "He escaped from prison, got caught, but was able to argue successfully in front of a judge that his original sentence was unjust...and he got off free. And that's just the beginning."

Ditto for James' post-Buffy career in television, if the number of auditions he's been on lately is any indication. "I'm burning myself to a crisp auditioning for pilots, but it's cool, man," he says.

Former Buffy chief Marti Noxon might disagree, as it kept him from appearing on her Fox series, Point Pleasant. "I guess he's got a couple of major prospects," she tells me. "And as a result, we weren't able to bring him in for the last three episodes, which is what we wanted to do. But if we got a second season, we won't take no for an answer."

Spoken like a true fan.

Whedonverse: Tribute to James Marsters

Whedonverse News...
Tribute to James Marsters

A classic 1958 Desoto FireFlite crashes through the 'Welcome to Sunnydale' sign and screeches to a halt. Spike gets out and strolls over to the curb. He takes a deep breath and lights a cigarette.

Spike: Home, sweet home. -James Marsters debut in 'School Hard'

The Whedonverse Multimedia Project seeks to donate Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel the Series, and Firefly DVDs to public libraries and other charitable organizations.

Before the campaign had any libraries on its waiting list, fans were asked to nominate the hometown libraries of the producers, writers and actors from the show. Donations to our list of libraries requesting DVDs will be fulfilled before any additional nominations will be accepted.

James Marsters is the next nominee on our list. From March 7 - March 12 the Project will be accepting donations in his honor.

Born in the remote northern logging town of Greenville, California, and raised in Modesto, California, Marsters always knew he wanted to be an actor. From his debut as 'Eyeore' in a fourth grade production of "Winnie the Pooh", he went on to study acting at New York's prestigious Julliard. He began his professional career in the theater, performing in stage productions including "The Tempest" and "Red Noses" at Chicago's renowned Goodman Theater. In addition, Marsters revisited the stage in Los Angeles , with a starring role in an original play titled "The Why" which was produced by Noah Wyle.

Marsters made his on-screen debut guest-starring on the television series "Northern Exposure". He landed the prominent role of an ill-at-ease priest, which was cast locally in Seattle, soon after moving to the Pacific Northwest. He was inspired by the success to move to Los Angeles and within months was sinking his proverbial teeth into the role of 'Spike' in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". He made the move to Buffy's spin-off series "Angel" the last season it aired.

As a tribute to James' fine work on both shows, the Project would like to donate at least a complete set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Series DVDs to the Modesto Public Library. We will send as many DVDs as donations permit.

All donations to the Project will be used toward purchasing DVDs for public libraries and other charitable organizations. A card will be handed to James at the Houston Convention at the end of this month with the names of all those who donated.

Alyson Hannigan is the last nomination on our list. Her tribute will begin the day after the James Marsters Tribute closes.

Ask Ausiello: James Talks Spike Movie
From: http://www.tvguide.com/news/askausiello/

Question: I think a Spike TV-movie would be great! - Teri

Ausiello: So, apparently, does James Marsters. In his first interview since I pitched WB president David Janollari the idea of doing a Spike telepic, the 42-year-old actor told my colleague, Ben Katner, that he's game for resurrecting his soulful Buffyverse counterpart "as long as I could do it within, say, the next four or five years; past that, I'm too old. Spike's a vampire, man, and I've got high standards - you have to believe that the guy has not aged since we met him. There's a little poetic license, but I don't want to get into a situation where the script says, 'Well, he was drinking pig blood and he aged,' you know? [Whatever Joss Whedon wrote] would be funnier than that - it would be delightful - but it would be taking away the coolest thing about a vampire, which is that he's iconic... he does not change." OK, Mr. Janollari - the ball is in your court.
