Could James Perform in the US?
From: jennifer @ SupportSpike@yahoogroups.com

I emailed Steve Himber to see if there's any way James could do a stage performance in the US similar to the one he's doing in the UK and this is his reply:

#######

Nothing planned as of yet for this type of show in the US. We'll keep everyone posted if that should change.

---------------
Hello Mr. Himber,

I'd LOVE to see James perform something theatrical on stage, in addition to his wonderful music, but I don't think I can make the trip to the UK again this year. I attended the Halloween convention last year and had a really great time. Is there any chance James might do something similar to "Words and Music" event in London this October sometime here in the United States?

Thank-you for your time,

Jennifer

I'm sad. :(

'Buffy' convention

If you're a big fan of "Buffy" or "Angel," you might be interested in laying out some big bucks for the first Motor City Buffy fan convention June 2-5 in Ypsilanti.

Among those expected to attend the conference at Ypsilanti's Marriott Eagle Crest Resort are Anthony Stewart Head, Andy Hallett, Adam Busch, Tom Lenk, Danny Strong, Kali Rocha and Michelle Kelly.

The event begins with a concert by actor James Marsters, who played Spike, on June 2; tickets are $25. Common Rotation will perform June 3; tickets are $15.

A weekend pass will cost $130-$225, depending on how many events and how much access you want. Some events aren't included in that pass, such as the concerts as well as a June 3 cocktail party with actors from the two TV series and a June 4 dinner with actors, either of which will cost another $80.

The passes include a question-and-answer session with some of the actors and access to a room where fans can buy merchandise.

Apparently the organizers, Bill and Robbie Adams of Crystal Ball Entertainment in Livonia, do have a sense of humor.

"Our goal is to provide fans with access to their favorite Buffy/Angel stars without overcharging them," said Robbie Adams in a press release.

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.MotorCityBuffy.com or call (248) 568-0834.

Whedonverse and Beyond... Convention News and Updates
From: http://www.alternateuniversepresents.com/News%20&%20Updates.htm

Convention News and Updates

May 7, 2005

LET'S PARTY!

At Whedonverse and Beyond, we've got a lot to celebrate:

James Marsters, on the heels of the release of his first solo CD - Civilized Man, has just completed a hugely successful seven-date, sold-out concert tour of the UK.

Common Rotation returns to the US fresh off their own indie-rockin' tour of London, Glasgow and Liverpool.

And last - but certainly not least - our Big Damn Heroes had a kick-ass sneak preview of SERENITY in 10 - count 'em, 10 - cities across the country.

Big Damn Heroes everywhere!

Rave reviews abound for ALL of these events leaving the rest of us bitin' at the bit for our chance to share in the fun. So, yeah - we're pretty happy about bringing all of this excitement to Sacramento in July. So, here's what we're gonna do about it...

Alternate Universe Presents would like to open up the the purchase of autograph tickets, photo ops and Evening at The Bronze Concert tickets to our Weekend Boarding Pass holders! To get you started and in honor of that outstanding 10-city sneak peak, we're kicking in a Serenity Shindig Special of one free autograph with either Nathan Fillion or Adam Baldwin! You choose which one you want when you get to Sacramento. (Please note that this offer DOES NOT include options to purchase Meet and Greet, Banquet or James Marsters' Talk Back tickets.)

AUP has also heard your questions about extra autographs for James Marsters, so we're adding those to the Shopping Cart choices as well. Buy 'til your heart's content. There is no limit on the quantity of extra autographs you may purchase... unless you go nuts and try to buy a few 100.

Please note that James Marsters will be doing two photo sessions. So if you want to purchase more than one photo op with our Civilized Man, then go for it!

And while we're at it, we're adding in an extra autograph option for David Fury, too - 'cause we like him.... (OK, and also 'cause that guy is always writing something - BUFFY, ANGEL, FIREFLY, LOST, and now, THE INSIDE and 24 - really, he's like the Energizer Writin' Bunny!)

Remember, there are no limits on how many extra autographs or photo op tickets you may purchase at this time.

ONE LAST ANNOUNCEMENT: We are sorry to say that the James Marsters' Talk Back tickets are almost sold out! Oh, come on, who are we kidding?!? We're not sorry about that at all. We're actually pretty excited about making this a fun, relaxed talk for James and you. But seriously folks, the tickets are almost gone, so hurry up and get your Talk Back ticket - 'cause it's gonna ROCK!

Fan Extravaganza is Absolutely Out of This World!
From: http://www.miltonkeynestoday.co.uk/ViewArticle2.aspx?SectionID=415&ArticleID=1017906

Fan extravaganza is absolutely out of this world!

Thousands of sci-fi fans flocked to Collectormania last weekend... and declared it out of this world.
Scores of actors from some of the planet earth's most famous films and programmes came to Milton Keynes to press the flesh at the incredibly popular event, held at the centre:mk.

An estimated 10,000 people queued just to meet James Masters, who starred as Spike in Buffy, and the crowd went wild when Red Dwarf's Craig Charles put in an appearance.

Dr Who fans were in for the biggest treat of all as a total of 27 stars from the BBC series travelled through time – some of them from the 1960s – to meet the public.

The famous blue tardis opened its doors and the scary Daleks spilled forth.

But with no less than four Dr Whos lurking – Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker and Peter Davison – the terrifying tin cans stood no chance…
A Star Wars reunion also saw Darth Vader, Darth Maul, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and 14 other stars flying in from the outer reaches of the galaxy to sign for eager autograph hunters.

"It has been our most successful event ever," said one of the organisers, Jason Joiner.

"It has been very, very hectic and everyone has gone crazy for the stars – and the Daleks of course."

TV Guide: Buffy's James Marsters: Rock Star?
From: http://www.tvguide.com/news/insider/050502b.asp

Buffy's James Marsters: Rock Star?
by Ben Katner

If your fantasies involve being serenaded by a vampire, you're in luck. James Marsters — beloved as toothsome Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel — has just released his first solo CD, Civilized Man. If only he could have produced the album without leaving a trail of carnage in his wake....

You see, before entering the studio on his own, the actor went on a highly successful tour of Europe with his band, Ghost of the Robot. "I believe it was our third time over there, and we'd gone from playing houses of hundreds of people to playing for thousands of people. Not tens of thousands," he clarifies quickly for TVGuide.com, "but you know, three, four, five."

Nonetheless, the lead vocalist saw the blood... er, the writing on the wall. "The chemistry of the band changed," he says. "I think we started taking ourselves too seriously, frankly, and it stopped being fun for me." What's more, he adds, "The songwriting coming from the other members of the band was way too high for my voice. So I broke up the band after a very successful tour!"

Marsters laughs at the irony, but he's dead serious. "We were just about to finish up our second album, which was sounding really good compared to our first, but I pulled the plug."

Afterward, the frontman who no longer had anyone behind him returned to Europe. "Just me and a guitar, man, which was terrifying!" he exclaims. "I'm not Woody Guthrie ! I didn't believe that I could stand up in front of 500 to 1000 people with one instrument and bring enough different kinds of sounds to pretend that I was really entertaining people for a whole hour.

"But it went really well," he adds, relieved. "People responded that they liked that set better than the band's. I'm sure not everybody felt that way...."

Yeah, his ex-bandmates from Ghost of the Robot, for instance. "Probably not," he admits with a laugh. "But they're all good people, and we're on good terms. It's just, stuff for [the band], I was a little reluctant to let people hear, because a lot of it was beyond my range [vocally], and I didn't feel as if it was good enough to be called professional. But now [with my new material], I do. Some of it you'll probably like, some if it you won't.

"I guess at the end of the day," he concludes, "the best thing about the whole process is that I feel more confident about myself as a musician, which is probably what you're looking for when you do something like this in the first place."

To order Civilized Man, visit James Marsters' website.
