James Answers Your Questions!

There are times when your arms look amazing, specifically your triceps. What exercises do you do to work this part of your arms and do you workout at home or in a gym with a trainer?
I work out at home. I've never had a trainer, never will. I work out with free weights - low weight, high repetition. I have 2 dumbbells of 20 lbs. each and I do 2 sets of 60 reps each.

Which musical instrument would you like to learn how to play?
Piano / keyboard.

Is it easy for you to forgive and forget?
Impossible for both, but I can always pretend.

You are always asked what you and Spike had in common. Besides not being funny when you're angry, can you elaborate on what you and Spike did not have in common?
I have always had friends. I play the guitar and I try to avoid hitting people. Uhmmm... I like myself.

What is your favorite:

*female blues singer? (we normally just hear your male favorites)
Lady Day
*word or phrase that you overuse?
I tend not to finish sentences when I’m trying to think, which can be annoying.

Either/Or:

waffles or pancakes?
waffles any day
hot or cold weather?
hot
eyes that shoot laser beams or x-ray vision?
x-ray vision
Coke or Pepsi?
I like the logo of Coke, but Pepsi tastes better.
A small part in a big budget movie that is going to be seen worldwide or the lead in an independent movie?
I think definitely a small part in a good picture because the better the picture, the better the script and the better the performance.

MESSAGE FROM STEVE

I am overwhelmed by the e-mails I have received from those of you who attended the convention on board the Queen Mary. I normally try and respond to each and every one of you, but the numbers are so great that I am finding the task to be impossible. Please pardon this mass message, but I did want to respond to all of you with a very heartfelt thank you. If it weren’t for all of you then we wouldn’t have any reason to put together these cons. Your support for James is amazing. Your compliments to myself, JM Live and all the stewards is much appreciated. I am very fortunate to have found such wonderful people to work with me tirelessly. And I am very fortunate to get to know some of you along the way as well.

Best wishes to you all,

Steve

2006 KryptonSite Awards: The Results Are In!
From: http://www.kryptonsite.com/awards2006winners.htm

[clipped]

You sent in your nominations and then thousands of fans participated in this year's Annual KryptonSite Awards picking the best episodes and concepts in the fifth season of Smallville.

Inside you'll probably find some surprises as well as some of the usual suspects. Enjoy, and thanks again for participating!

The news that Buffy the Vampire Slayer's one-time "Spike," James Marsters, would be joining the show was a welcome one to fans of Smallville and fans of good genre TV alike.

Sadly, Brainiac may not have appeared on the show as much as we may have liked, but when James Marsters was on the screen, people were very happy.

It's no surprise, then, that 66% of the 7,637 people who voted for Best Guest Star all rallied behind James Marsters.

Coming in at a VERY distant second, with 11%, was Lee Thompson Young, who played the future Teen Titan Cyborg in "Cyborg."

James Marsters & Friends - Get Your Thinking Caps On
From: JMLive Mailing List

GET YOUR THINKING CAPS ON

Find out if you are a Marsters mastermind and take part in the Ultimate James Marsters Quiz during the James Marsters & Friends weekend aboard the Queen Mary next month.

Copies of the fun quiz will be available at registration and a prize will be awarded to the Clever Clogs who can answer all the questions. But be warned - there are some tricky brain teasers. Do you dare test the limits of your knowledge?

Meanwhile, a big thank you to everyone who has sent in excellent question suggestions so far. There's still plenty of time to submit advance questions for all the guests at James Marsters & Friends. Here are a few tips to get you started:

GUESTS
All of the guests attending have had fascinating careers and will be doing talks and Q&A sessions over the weekend. Unfortunately, it's unlikely that there will be time for everyone to ask a question of James, but there's every opportunity to ask a question of the other top guests attending.

If you want a good wrangle about Spike versus Angel, or whether Buffy loved someone, then Jane Espenson, Steve DeKnight and David Fury are your guys. For why James just had to spend most of Shadow Puppets in his undies, Michael Winnick is the man.

Feel free to ask anything and everything. For instance ....Have you ever wanted to know why people wrote Spike the way they did? Would you like to tease out behind the scenes stories from Shadow Puppets? How did David Fury feel working with evil puppets in Smile Time? How does casting really work in Hollywood, and does DeeDee have a couch? Did Tony Todd frighten himself when he was playing Candyman? What was it like for David Fury working on Lost?

Let your imaginations run riot. There is NO LIMIT to the number of questions you can submit.

JAMES
Be original and inventive in your questions for James. Of course, he may have a different view now on something he said a few years ago but, if it's a query he's answered several times, your question might not be selected. A good database of past questions is http://jamesdb.com/.

You can submit your questions via the online form which can be found on both http://www.jamesmarsterslive.com and http://www.jamesmarsters.com.

Please don't forget to put your ticket number on the form. Any questions without ticket numbers will be deleted. If your question or questions, is selected you will get a question card in your registration packet. Question card holders will be able to ask their questions first before the session is open to the floor.

August

James Answers Your Questions!

Do you generally stay in character on the set and if so, how far do you take it? If you don't, how do you stay focused through the long periods of waiting in between shots/scenes?
I find it best to drop character and then leap without looking back into the scene. This sometimes surprises me and things happen that I didn’t plan.

If you could change one thing about Spike, what would that be?
He would have achieved something for himself, even something small.

I've heard that when you had your own theatre company, you wrote your own plays at times. What did you choose to write about, and why?
I didn't write my own original material. We adapted from short stories, we re-translated from old works, and I also helped young playwrights through the process of original works. I was most proud of Calderon's "Life is a Dream", a 17th century Spanish masterpiece equivalent to "Hamlet" but little known in the English speaking world, and an original piece called "I Might Be Edgar Allen Poe."

What do you do when you get stuck while you're writing? In other words, what's your cure for writer's block?
Let it go and it will come. It’s like a bird - it will fly right away but it will come right on your shoulder when you’re not even asking for it. It’s a mistake to try to force your creative mind with your intelligence. The best thing to do if you are blocked is to find something that is fun.

If money was no object, what would you buy?
A small Lear jet. I spend a lot of time driving. I drive half-way around the earth every year.

You say you are a slave to Shakespeare, but are there any other English playwrights that you admire so passionately? Do you prefer the atmosphere of English theatre or American theatre and why?
I haven’t seen enough English theater to give a preference. I’m a slave to any good playwright, or as any actor would say, a servant to any good text. Another good English-verse playwright is Christopher Fry. One contemporary of Shakespeare’s in Spain was Calderon, arguably Shakespeare’s only equal. Steven Berkoff is a fabulous English playwright, but my favorite right now is an American, John Olive.
